YM Serenity has been recognised with the NYK Dry Bulk Award for her strong safety and operational performance. The achievement reflects the close collaboration between our seafarers and shore teams.

Built on long-standing partnerships with Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) and Yamamaru, this recognition reflects our shared commitment to safe voyages, reliable vessel uptime and strong operational performance.

NYK Dry Bulk Award

The NYK Dry Bulk Award is a prestigious recognition programme established by NYK’s Dry Bulk Business Group. It promotes high standards in dry bulk vessel safety, operational quality and performance.

Eligible vessels are assessed against:

  • Port State Control inspection performance
  • NAV9000 compliance and assessment results, based on NYK’s proprietary safety management standard
  • Vessel accident, incident and machinery trouble records

NYK revised the selection criteria in 2026. This made the assessment more stringent and the award more selective.

The presentation formed part of NYK’s annual Dry Bulk Safety Conference. This year, the conference brought together 98 representatives from 29 shipowners, ship management companies and maritime-related organisations. Their participation reflected the industry’s continued focus on safe ship operations and high-quality vessel management.

YM Serenity’s safety and operational achievement

YM Serenity delivered a strong operational performance throughout the assessment period.

The vessel achieved zero deficiencies during two Port State Control inspections. These were conducted by AMSA in Australia and Hamburg Port State Control.

YM Serenity also maintained zero operational downtime, with no reported incidents, accidents or machinery failures. While under NYK charter, the vessel consistently demonstrated high standards of safety management and operational reliability.

All vessels operating under NYK charter during the assessment period were eligible for consideration. This makes YM Serenity’s recognition particularly noteworthy.

The result reflects the care and discipline of our seafarers on board, supported by our shore-based technical ship management teams. Together, they focused on safe operations, planned maintenance and controlled risk.

This work helped protect Yamamaru’s asset while delivering the safe and reliable performance expected by NYK.

About YM Serenity

YM Serenity is a Capesize bulk carrier built in 2011 by Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. in Japan. The vessel has been managed by Fleet since December 2013.

Over the years, we have worked closely with the vessel’s seafarers, Yamamaru and NYK to maintain strong safety, operational and technical standards.

This joined-up approach to dry bulk ship management supports safe voyages, reliable uptime and consistent service. It also reflects our commitment to caring for customers’ assets as if they were our own.

More than two decades of partnership

Our partnership with Yamamaru began in 2003. Since then, we have supported both tanker and bulk carrier operations.

Today, four Yamamaru-owned vessels remain under our technical management. This reflects the trust and practical collaboration developed through more than two decades of working together.

YM Serenity’s achievement shows what long-term maritime partnerships can deliver. Our seafarers and shore teams bring practical ship management expertise. Yamamaru provides long-term trust and close cooperation, while NYK sets high standards for vessel safety and operational performance.

Together, we remain focused on safe voyages, reliable uptime and controlled risk for every vessel under our care.
