The manager of the Marshall Islands‑flagged tanker Atlantic Rosa (IMO 9993860) confirms that the vessel was involved in a collision with the bulk carrier, MV CSL Tecumseh while transiting the Carquinez Strait near Benicia, California, at approximately 0100 UTC on 24 July 2026.
One crew member sustained injuries and a medivac transfer to hospital has been arranged. The crew member is reported to be in stable condition and is receiving medical care onboard the vessel. The crewman’s family has been notified and is being kept fully informed. The safety and wellbeing of all crew remain our highest priority.
Following the incident, a fire was reported on board the MV CSL Tecumseh. The vessel’s emergency response procedures were immediately activated, and firefighting operations remain ongoing under controlled conditions. Fire response and spill containment resources have been mobilised in close coordination with the United States Coast Guard (USCG), the California Office of Spill Prevention and Response (OSPR), and relevant local response agencies.
There is a reported breach to the vessel’s fuel oil tank and a sheen has been observed on the water in the vicinity of the vessel. The vessel’s response plans have been activated, and containment and clean-up operations are underway under the direction of the appointed Qualified Individual (QI), in coordination with the USCG. All appropriate measures are being taken to mitigate environmental impact.
The company is cooperating fully with federal, state, and local authorities. An investigation into the cause of the incident is underway. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
