Hong Kong Maritime Week 2025 was an action-packed showcase of the city’s role as a global maritime hub, bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators for a week of high-level dialogue and collaboration.

Hong Kong is home to 1,200+ maritime companies employing over 78,000 professionals. Four of the world’s top ten ship management companies are headquartered here, and Hong Kong's ship registry ranks fourth globally by tonnage, underscoring its strategic importance to international shipping. This year’s programme featured discussions on connectivity with Greater Bay Area maritime hubs and the integration of green fuel production centres in Mainland China, reinforcing Hong Kong’s position in Asia’s energy transition. The programme was shaped in part by Angad Banga, Chief Operating Officer of The Caravel Group and Executive Director of Fleet Management Limited, whose leadership featured prominently across multiple keynote engagements and panel discussions.
Decarbonisation was a central theme, with attention focused on how the postponement of the IMO's Net-Zero Framework will impact operations. Angad cautioned,
“If we wait for perfect clarity, we will lose ground,” adding that the delay “creates a leadership opportunity, and Hong Kong is ready to lead.”
Industry leaders emphasised that progress must continue on multi-fuel strategies, we cannot afford to sit and wait. The city's accelerated effort in sustainable bunkering and alternative fuels was reinforced by the presence of the International Bunkering Industry Association held its global event in Hong Kong for the first time, and growing partnerships with the Mainland's green fuel hubs signaled the city’s growing influence.
Talent development also took centre stage with the launch of the Maritime Talent Cultivation Alliance, convened by the Hong Kong Shipowners Association and announced by Chairman Angad Banga. The Alliance unites 16 founding members from academia, industry, and research to foster a new generation of maritime professionals in China, ensuring a resilient and future-ready workforce. This emphasis reflected Angad’s message that,
“Investment in infrastructure, technologies and jobs will define the next generation of maritime trade.”
Hong Kong Maritime Week 2025 featured Angad across multiple high-profile engagements, including the Opening Keynote at the Hong Kong Global Maritime Trade Summit and the Opening Keynote at the Xinde Marine Forum. At these forums, he reinforced Hong Kong’s role as a connector for trade, finance, and the green transition. The week reaffirmed the city’s leadership in shipping, innovation, and sustainability, Angad reminded audiences that
“The future of maritime trade will be written not by any single nation, but by many working in concert”
Setting the stage for inclusive growth and regional collaboration. From green energy to talent pipelines, the conversations held this week will shape the future of maritime in Asia and beyond.
