In a special message for Fleet's seafarers, the former Indian cricketer paid tribute to the people who keep global trade moving and the qualities they share with elite athletes.

What do cricket and seafaring have in common?

According to former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan, more than many people might think.

In a special message for Fleet's seafarers around the world, Pathan reflected on the parallels that connect life on the cricket field with life at sea, while recognising the people whose work keeps global trade moving every day.

"Most of what we use every day is transported by sea, and that only happens because of seafarers."

Drawing on his experience at the highest level of international cricket, Pathan spoke about the responsibility that comes with being part of a team and delivering when others are counting on you.

"Being a seafarer is not just about the job. It's about responsibility, teamwork, and performing under pressure every single day."

For Pathan, the similarities between sport and seafaring are clear.

"On the field, we prepare, trust our team, and deliver in tough situations. Seafarers do the same, just on a much larger stage where the stakes are global."

While the work of seafarers often happens far from the spotlight, their contribution touches every part of modern life. From the products people use every day to the global supply chains that connect economies and communities, seafarers play a vital role in keeping the world moving.

Pathan also recognised Fleet's efforts to support seafarers both at sea and in offices worldwide.

He praised Fleet Care, Fleet's wellbeing programme, which provides holistic physical and mental health support for seafarers and their families. Built on the belief that performance begins with people, Fleet Care helps ensure seafarers have the support they need to remain capable, committed and ready to perform at their best.

He also commended Pulse, the first app created and launched for Fleet seafarers.

Designed for life at sea, Pulse brings together documents, assignments, career information and wellbeing support in one place, making it easier for seafarers to access what they need, when they need it. Since launch, the app has surpassed 7,000 downloads, demonstrating strong demand for practical tools designed around the needs of seafarers.

For Pathan, initiatives such as Fleet Care and Pulse demonstrate a commitment not only to recognising seafarers for the work they do, but also supporting their wellbeing and success throughout their careers.

Concluding his message, he thanked seafarers for the contribution they make every day.

"I thank you for your contribution to global trade, not just today, but every day. You make the world move. And that is something to be really proud of in maritime."
